Self-Injury is the act of purposefully injuring one's body via cutting, burning, piercing, bruising, breaking bones, and/or self-mutilation without the the intent to commit suicide. It's mainly used as a coping mechanism by those struggling to feel alive or deal with overwhelming emotions and psychological pain due to issues of personal identity, trauma, and/or difficulty finding one's place in society.
